Let’s be honest—when summer hits full force and the heat feels relentless, no one wants to spend hours in the kitchen every time the sun hangs high and the cicadas hum endlessly. That’s exactly when simple recipes like this watermelon and peach sorbet come to the rescue.

In Crete, where summer days feel like they last forever, this kind of fruity sorbet is something you’ll often find in homes and gardens. People blend up what they have on hand—sweet, juicy watermelon and those gorgeous white Saturn peaches (you know, the flat ones that grow in so many local gardens).
It’s the kind of recipe that barely feels like a recipe. Just slice up your watermelon, scoop out any seeds (unless you’ve got a seedless one), and chop up a few peaches. I usually peel them for a smoother texture, but you can leave the peach skins on for extra fiber.

Most of the time, the fruit is sweet enough on its own, but if your watermelon isn’t at its peak or if you like your sorbet a little sweeter, feel free to add a spoonful of sugar. Honey is lovely, too—it adds a nice floral note.
Or if you’re cutting back on sugar, a little natural sweetener works fine. Honestly, it’s totally flexible.
Then, I like to add a splash of water to help everything blend smoothly and the juice of half a lemon to brighten the flavors. Toss it all in a blender and whizz it up until it’s smooth. You can strain it if you want that ultra-smooth, sorbet-shop texture, but I usually skip that step—it’s more rustic and homey that way.

Now, if you’ve got an ice cream maker, this is the time to pull it out. But if not, no worries at all—just pour the mixture into a shallow dish, pop it in the freezer, and stir it now and then as it freezes to keep it from getting too icy.

The result? Cool and refreshing, and full of summer taste. Perfect for kids (they’ll love the bright color and fresh taste), but if you’re making it for a grown-up gathering, there’s no shame in adding a little something extra.
A dash of peach liqueur, vodka, or even ouzo works beautifully—just enough to give it a little kick without overpowering the fruit.

Freeze it in popsicle molds for kids or serve it up in a bowl or glass, and if you happen to have some fresh mint lying around, toss a few leaves on top for a little pop of color and a refreshing aroma.
And there you have it. No fuss, all flavor, and exactly what you want on a scorching summer day.

Tips & Fruit Variations

One of the best things about homemade sorbet is how easy it is to play around with the flavors. Watermelon and peach are a perfect summer match, but once you’ve got the hang of blending and freezing fruit, the possibilities are endless.
Here are a few ideas and tips to help you mix things up:
- Melon & Mint
Swap watermelon for cantaloupe or honeydew and blend with fresh mint for a super cooling combo.
- Strawberry & Peach
When strawberries are at their sweetest, they pair beautifully with peaches. Add a squeeze of lemon to balance the flavors.
- Mango & Lime
A tropical twist! Mango’s sweetness and fresh lime juice make a vibrant, sunshine-bright sorbet.
- Cherry & Watermelon
Cherries add a deeper flavor. Just remember to pit them first.
- Apricot & Peach
If you have apricots lying around, they work beautifully with peaches for a more intense stone fruit flavor.
Tips for Perfect Sorbet Every Time:

- Taste your fruit first. If it’s sweet and ripe, you won’t need much (or any) extra sugar.
- Balance is key: A splash of citrus juice (lemon or lime) makes the fruit flavors pop and keeps the sorbet from tasting too flat or sweet.
- Make it creamy: For a smoother texture, you can blend in a splash of coconut milk or Greek yogurt—but keep in mind, it’ll be more of a fruit ice cream than a sorbet.
- Adult twist: For a grown-up version, try adding a splash of peach schnapps, limoncello, white rum, or even a touch of ouzo (which goes surprisingly well with watermelon). Just a little will give the sorbet a silky texture and subtle kick.
Cool, simple, and bursting with summer flavor, this sorbet brings a little Cretan sunshine to your table—no frills, just pure fruit refreshment.
