Baklava is a beloved Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dessert, known for its buttery phyllo layers, spiced nuts, and sticky honey syrup.
But what if you could enjoy those iconic flavors in cupcake form and topped with creamy chocolate? These Baklava-Inspired Cupcakes take all the best elements of the traditional treat and transform them into a moist, nutty, and perfectly spiced cake, topped with a drizzle of fragrant honey syrup and chocolate glaze.

These cupcakes have the perfect balance of warmth, sweetness, and texture with a base made of cinnamon-spiced cake and crunchy walnuts and pistachios. Instead of layering phyllo dough, we create a light, fluffy cake base with the same comforting flavors.
A final drizzle of homemade honey syrup ensures they stay moist and irresistibly sweet—just like real baklava! The chocolate topping adds the right touch of indulgence that makes this one of the most perfect (and decadent) sweets!

- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ cup Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup chopped walnuts
- ¼ cup chopped pistachios
For the honey syrup
- ½ cup honey
- ¼ cup water
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp orange zest
For the chocolate & honey glaze
½ cup dark chocolate (chopped or chips)2 tablespoons honey2 tablespoons heavy cream (or milk for a lighter version)1 tablespoon unsalted butter½ teaspoon cinnamon (to enhance the baklava flavors)¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
Prepare the cupcake batter
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk the melted butter, sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add the eggs, Greek yogurt, milk, and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

Add nuts & bake
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the chopped walnuts and pistachios for that signature baklava crunch!
- Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling them about ¾ full.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Make the honey syrup
- While the cupcakes bake, prepare the syrup: In a saucepan, combine honey, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and orange zest.
- Simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Prepare the honey and chocolate glaze
- In a heatproof bowl, combine the chocolate, honey, and heavy cream. Microwave in 15-20 second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth. (Or melt using a double boiler.)
- Stir in the butter, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until fully incorporated and glossy.
- Let the glaze cool for a minute to thicken slightly but remain pourable.

Drizzle & serve!
- Once the cupcakes are out of the oven, immediately drizzle 1–2 teaspoons of warm honey syrup over each one.
- Let the syrup soak in, adding more if desired for extra moisture.
- Spoon or drizzle the chocolate glaze over cupcakes, or dip the tops for a smooth, shiny finish.
- Garnish with chopped pistachios for an authentic baklava touch!
- Serve warm or at room temperature

Tips for the Best Baklava-Inspired Cupcakes
- Use high-quality honey
Since honey is the star ingredient, opt for Greek honey for a more authentic flavor.
- Toast the nuts
Lightly toasting the walnuts and pistachios before adding them to the batter will enhance their nutty flavor. - Don’t overmix the batter
Overmixing can make cupcakes dense instead of light and fluffy. Stir until just combined. - Drizzle the syrup while the cupcakes are warm
This helps the cupcakes absorb the syrup, just like traditional baklava.
- For extra baklava flavor, add phyllo crisps
Bake thin phyllo strips brushed with butter and sugar until golden, then use them as a crunchy garnish!
- Glaze when cool
For better results, glaze the cupcakes when they have cooled.

These chocolate baklava cupcakes combine the classic flavor of baklava with the fluffy texture of a cupcake. With their cinnamon-spiced taste, nuts, and chocolate topping, they’re perfect for parties, holidays, or simply indulging your sweet tooth.
