Recipe for Banana Bread with Greek Yogurt: How I Make It

To prepare this delicious banana bread, you will need bananas (the riper the better), plain Greek yogurt, butter (which you can replace with a good quality olive oil), some honey or Moscovado sugar, vanilla extract, a couple of eggs, and the flour you prefer (whole wheat or all-purpose work just fine).

The ingredients that help raise the bread are baking soda and a pinch of salt.

Optional ingredients: some cinnamon for depth and chopped walnuts or chocolate chips.

Steps to Prepare this Banana Bread

  • Preheat the oven
Set your oven to 175°C (~350°F).
Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • Prepare the bananas
In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.
The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your banana bread will be!
  • Mix the wet ingredients
Add the Greek yogurt, melted butter, brown sugar (or honey), eggs, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas.
Stir until everything is well combined.
  • Combine the dry ingredients
In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using).
  • Combine the wet and dry ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture.
Stir gently until the batter is just combined.
Avoid overmixing for a light, fluffy texture.
If you want, fold in chopped walnuts or chocolate chips at this stage.
  • Bake the banana bread
Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan.
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
The bread should have a golden-brown color on top.
  • Cool and serve
Let the banana bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
Slice and enjoy this moist, flavorful treat!

Tips to Make a Great Banana Bread

  • For extra flavor
Add a handful of dried fruit, such as raisins or cranberries, or sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top before baking for a sweet touch.
  • Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Healthier version
You can substitute half of the flour with oat flour or whole-wheat flour for a healthier option!

Enjoy your slice of banana bread with a cup of tea or coffee, or pair it with a dollop of Greek yogurt for an extra creamy treat.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe bananas mashed
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt (plain, full-fat works best)
  • cup butter melted
  • 1 cup brown sugar or 1 cup honey
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • cups whole wheat flour (or all-purpose flour)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon (optional)
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 175°C (~350°F).
  • Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth and creamy.
  • The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more aromatic your bread will be.
  • Add Greek yogurt, melted coconut oil (or butter), brown sugar (or honey), eggs, and vanilla extract to the mashed bananas.
  • Whisk until smooth and well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon (if using).

  • Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • The top should be golden brown and slightly cracked.

  • Freeze it: Slice and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature or warm in the oven.
  • Make it lighter: Use low-fat Greek yogurt and reduce the sweetener slightly.
  • Add-ins to try: Diced apples, shredded coconut, or a swirl of peanut butter before baking.
