
Easy Greek Yogurt Pita Bread To Make in Under 5 Minutes
If you’ve ever wanted a warm, soft pita bread but thought it was too complicated to make, this recipe will change your mind. With just a handful of ingredients and no yeast required, you can whip up Greek yogurt pita bread in just minutes.

Making bread at home often feels like too much work. Kneading, proofing, and waiting for the dough to rise can take hours, and most of us don’t have the time.
That’s why I like this Greek yogurt pita bread. It comes together quickly, with just flour, yogurt, salt, and a bit of olive oil, and it cooks in a few minutes.

I make these pitas often because they fit into almost any meal. They’re great warm from the pan, but also work as a base for wraps, sandwiches, or part of a meze spread.
Sometimes I cut them into pieces and bake them into chips for dips. Since the recipe doesn’t use yeast or require long resting, I can decide to make them whenever I want, even at the last minute.
How I Make These Pitas
I start by sifting flour into a bowl. In the center, I add Greek yogurt, salt, and olive oil. I bring everything together slowly, pulling flour into the yogurt until the dough forms. If it’s too sticky, I sprinkle in a bit more flour, but I keep it soft.

Once the dough is ready, I let it rest for about 20 minutes. This makes it easier to roll out. I divide the dough into small pieces and roll each one into a circle, about 15 cm across.


For cooking, I heat a cast-iron pan until it’s very hot. A few drops of olive oil are enough to keep the bread from sticking. Each pita cooks for about two to three minutes per side. They puff slightly and get golden spots as they cook.


They’re ready to eat right away. Sometimes I use them for sandwiches, sometimes with tzatziki or hummus. Other times, I cut them into triangles and bake them until crisp.

Other Ways to Make Quick Pitas
You can swap regular flour with self-rising flour to skip the salt. Plain yogurt also works if you don’t have Greek yogurt—just drain off some liquid so the dough doesn’t get too wet.

The dough takes well to small flavor changes. A pinch of oregano, sesame seeds, or garlic powder can go straight into the mix. Brushing the pitas with butter as soon as they come off the pan makes them softer, while baking them a little longer turns them into crisp flatbreads.
If you prefer, cook them on a grill. The high heat gives a smoky flavor and nice char marks, which work well for outdoor meals.

Easy Greek Yogurt Pita Bread
Ingredients
- 300 grams Greek yogurt (or plain yogurt, strained)
- 300 grams flour (or as much as the yogurt absorbs)
- 1 tbsp olive oil extra virgin (plus a few drops to cook the pitas)
- A pinch of salt (about 10 grams)
Instructions
- Sift the flour into a bowl.
- Make a well in the center and add the yogurt, the olive oil, and the salt.
- Mix until a soft dough forms. Add a little more flour if needed. You can also knead the dough on a table.
- Let the dough rest for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls. Roll each into a 15 cm circle (it should be quite thin, do not worry, the dough will not stick to the work surface).
- Heat a cast-iron pan until very hot. Brush lightly with oil.
- Cook each pita 2–3 minutes per side.
- Serve warm, or cut into pieces and bake for chips.
