The Mediterranean diet uses heart-healthy ingredients, often seasonal and fresh. The Greek cuisine, in particular, adds an extra flavorful element using ingredients like olive oil, lemon, oregano, and briny cheeses.

Meanwhile, avocado has exploded in popularity worldwide for its creamy texture and high levels of good fats. So why not marry these two culinary superstars?
This spread is inspired by classic tzatziki sauce and Greek salads, adding ripe avocados. Endlessly versatile, I suggest serving it at any festive gathering or preparing it for a healthy lunch or a snack.

If you want to serve this for a small gathering of 4 to 6 people, you will need two ripe avocados and Greek yogurt – choose a full-fat version for extra creaminess.
You will also need a small cucumber, some feta cheese, and extra virgin olive oil. For extra flavor, don’t forget garlic and herbs like mint, oregano, dill, basil, or others you enjoy. A squeeze of fresh lemon will add a flavor twist and prevent the dip from oxidizing and changing color before serving it.
Preparation Steps

- Prep the avocado by mashing it with a fork until it’s smooth. I like to leave a few chunks to give the spread a homemade, rustic style.
- Add the Greek yogurt and combine until everything has mixed well.
- For extra flavor, it’s time to add the diced cucumber, the feta, and minced garlic. Mix well and include the lemon juice and the herbs. End by seasoning with salt and pepper and drizzle with plenty of extra virgin olive oil.
- If you prefer it very tangy, then add extra lemon juice. Once you’ve finished mixing the ingredients and seasoning, transfer to a cute presentation bowl and garnish with extra dill, mint, or even sprinkle some chili on top for color and spiciness.
- Serve with warm pita bread, toasted rustic bread, or breadsticks with sesame seeds. It can also work well on top of grilled meats, including lamb, chicken, or fish.
Tips for a winning dip

- Use ripe avocados
They should yield slightly when pressed but not feel mushy.
- Drain the cucumber
If you want an extra-thick spread, lightly salt the diced cucumber and let it sit for 10 minutes, then blot with a paper towel to remove excess water.
- Whipped version
For an ultra-smooth texture, you can blend all ingredients in a food processor instead of mixing by hand.
- Serve cold
Chill the spread for 20–30 minutes before serving for the flavors to meld beautifully.
- High-quality feta
Use authentic Greek feta made from sheep’s milk for the best flavor — it’s creamier and more flavorful than cow’s milk versions.
Variations for this Spread

Want to add an extra twist to this dish? Try one of the following variations!
- Spicy kick: Add a pinch of red chili flakes or a diced green chili for some heat.
- Vegan twist: Swap the Greek yogurt for coconut yogurt and use a vegan feta substitute.
- Herb explosion: Add fresh parsley or basil if you want even more herby brightness.
- Tzatziki mashup: Grate the cucumber instead of dicing, and squeeze out the liquid for a more tzatziki-like consistency.
- Mediterranean bowl topper: Thin the spread with a little extra olive oil and lemon juice to create a dressing for grain bowls or salads.
