Chickpeas in Greek cooking

In Greek kitchens, chickpeas are more than just another pantry ingredient — they’re comfort food. You’ll find them slowly baked in wood-fired ovens, simmered into, folded into rustic pies, or turned into fritters meant to be shared.

Dishes like revithada from Sifnos or lemony revithosoupa are rooted in simplicity and patience, relying on time rather than complexity to build flavor.

Chickpeas also reflect the Greek way of cooking: seasonal, economical, and deeply connected to everyday life.

They absorb olive oil, herbs, onions, garlic, and citrus effortlessly, making them ideal for dishes that feel nourishing without being heavy. Besides, chickpeas adapt to both traditional recipes and modern home cooking with ease.
