I’ve made a lot of chicken dishes over the years, but this Chicken with Greek Yogurt Marinade has become a favorite in our home. It started as a quick weeknight experiment and quickly turned into a regular request—especially from my youngest son, who loves how it turns out every time.

Marinating chicken in Greek yogurt is a total game-changer. The yogurt gives it this amazing tang and creaminess that tenderizes the meat and helps all the herbs, garlic, and lime soak in.
I usually throw the marinade together in just a few minutes, let the chicken sit while I prep a salad or some roasted potatoes, and then cook it. Usually pan-seared for a quick dinner fix (but you can also grill it or roast it in the oven).
It’s simple but wholesome; it’s one of those dishes that feels special even when it’s just a Tuesday night.
How to Prepare the Dish
I usually start by mixing up the marinade in a bowl—just plain Greek yogurt, a good drizzle of olive oil, lots of fresh garlic, lime juice and zest (but also lemon works fine), and a handful of dried herbs and spices like oregano and paprika.

>> I always taste a little bit of the marinade to make sure everything’s balanced before adding the chicken.
Once the chicken’s coated, I cover the bowl and tuck it into the fridge. I can leave it overnight so the flavors get into the meat, but even an hour will do wonders.

>> For meal prep, you can pop everything into a zip-top bag and freeze.
Before I cook it, I let the chicken sit out for about 15 minutes to take the chill off—this helps it cook more evenly. Then it’s straight onto a hot grill or skillet. You get a gorgeous golden crust on the outside, and the inside stays juicy and tender thanks to the yogurt marinade.

I like to sprinkle it with fresh parsley just before serving—it adds a pop of color and a bit of freshness. We usually serve it with salad, but you can also have it inside a warm pita or with some roasted potatoes. No matter what, it always disappears fast.

- Marinating time
For the best flavor, let the chicken marinate overnight. However, even 1 hour will work if you’re short on time.
- Add extra herbs
Fresh herbs like rosemary, thyme, or basil offer more flavor to the final dish.
- Grilling
If grilling, make sure the grill is preheated before placing the chicken on it to get nice grill marks.
- Spicy kick
If you like a bit of spice, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the marinade.
- Yogurt variations
You can experiment with low-fat or full-fat Greek yogurt, depending on your preference.
- Chicken alternatives
This marinade works well with lamb chops or fish fillets (such as salmon), but marinate the fish for a shorter time—about 30 minutes.
