For me, Thanksgiving sweets are all about familiar flavors — cinnamon, pumpkin, apples, and caramel — but with little twists that make them memorable.

I like recipes that can be made ahead, keep well, and make the house smell amazing while they bake. I also make sure to balance the rich pies with lighter desserts so that every person at the table can have what they want after a big meal.

Thanksgiving Sweets

I love how these treats bring that cozy, autumn feeling straight to the table — perfect for sharing with family and friends.

1. Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake Bars

A creamy cheesecake swirled with pumpkin purée and warm spices, baked over a graham cracker crust, and topped with an optional drizzle of caramel.

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

For the topping:

  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling

For the filling:

  • 450g (16 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 160°C (~325°F). Line a 24 x 24 (~9×9-inch) baking pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  • Crust: In a medium bowl, mix the graham cracker crumbs, sugar, and melted butter until all is evenly combined. Press the mixture firmly and evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake the crust for 8-10 minutes, then remove from the oven and set aside to cool slightly.
  • Filling: In a large mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and sugar together until smooth and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Mix in the pumpkin purée and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
Add the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and flour.
    Mix until just combined—don’t overmix.
  • Pour the filling over the cooled crust in the baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center still slightly jiggles when gently shaken.
  • Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature.
Then refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to fully set.
  • Cut into bars and drizzle with caramel sauce before serving.

2. Maple Pecan Pie

A twist on the classic pecan pie with pure maple syrup adding depth to the sweet filling, all in a homemade crust.

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 8 tbsp (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3-4 tbsp ice water

For the filling:

  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups pecan halves
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (~350°F).
  • Crust: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, stirring until the dough begins to come together.
  • Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle about 12 inches in diameter. Transfer to a 24 cm (~9-inch) pie dish, trim excess dough, and crimp the edges.
  • Filling: In a medium bowl, whisk together the maple syrup, eggs, brown sugar, melted butter, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
    Stir in the pecan halves.
Pour the filling into the prepared crust, spreading pecans evenly.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown. The center should be slightly jiggly but will firm up as it cools.
  • Remove the pie from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

3. Apple Cider Donuts

Soft and cakey donuts infused with fresh apple cider and warm spices, coated in cinnamon sugar. I love donuts, and these with cinnamon are my perfect autumn treat!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 large egg
  • ¾ cup apple cider
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

For the coating:

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (~350°F).
Grease a donut pan or lightly grease a baking sheet if you prefer to shape donuts by hand.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, combine both sugars and the melted butter until they become a smooth mixture.
Beat in the egg, then add apple cider and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring just until combined — do not overmix.
  • Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean.
Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  • Mix the coating sugar and cinnamon in a shallow bowl and, while the donuts are still slightly warm, toss them gently in the cinnamon sugar to coat evenly.

4. Cranberry Orange Bread Pudding

Chunks of bread soaked in custard with cranberries and orange zest, and served with a vanilla sauce: A comforting bread that I think is ideal as a wintery holiday dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups day-old bread, cubed (preferably brioche or challah)
  • 1 ½ cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions:

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (~350°F). Grease a 24 x 34 (~9 x 13-inch) baking dish (or a similar size).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, salt, orange zest, and melted butter until smooth and well combined.
Add the cubed bread and the cranberries to the custard mixture, stirring gently to coat all the bread pieces evenly.
Let the mixture sit for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the bread to soak up the custard fully.
  • Pour the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set but still slightly wobbly in the center.
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  • Optionally, dust with powdered sugar before serving for a simple but festive look.

5. Chocolate Bourbon Tart

A chocolate tart infused with a splash of bourbon, set in a crisp crust — an indulgent dessert perfect for holiday gatherings and probably one of my favorite pies, and not just for Thanksgiving… I can eat this all year round!

Ingredients:

For the crust:

  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 8 tbsp (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3-4 tbsp ice water

For the filling:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 220 grams (8 oz) bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 3 large eggs
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tbsp bourbon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  • Crust: In a food processor or bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and salt.
Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Add ice water gradually until you can form the dough and shape it into a disk.
Wrap in plastic and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (~350°F).
Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface and fit it into a 24 cm (~9-inch) tart pan with a removable bottom.
Trim excess dough and prick the base with a fork.
  • Line the crust with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the weights and parchment and bake another 10 minutes until it sets.
    Let it cool.
  • Filling: In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream until it just begins to simmer. Remove from the heat and pour it over the chopped chocolate in a heatproof bowl. Let sit for a minute, then stir until smooth and glossy.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, sugar, softened butter, bourbon, vanilla, and salt until well combined.
Gradually whisk the chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until smooth.
Pour the filling into the cooled tart shell and bake for 25-30 minutes, until the filling is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  • Remove from oven and let cool to room temperature, then chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours before serving.

9. No-Bake Gingerbread Trifles with Raspberries

Easy to make dessert that features layers of moist gingerbread cake, spiced whipped cream, molasses-soaked fruit, and raspberries. This easy-to-assemble sweet is perfect for Thanksgiving or any moment if you’re short of time!

Ingredients:

  • 1 batch gingerbread cake or store-bought gingerbread, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 1 cup chopped dried figs or dates (optional)

  • Ground cinnamon or nutmeg, for garnish

Instructions:

  • In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until you reach a chantilly point (when stiff peaks can form easily).
  • If using dried figs or dates, soak them in molasses for 10-15 minutes to soften and infuse flavor. I suggest pomegranate or grape molasses (Cretan petimezi).
  • Assemble the trifles: In individual serving glasses or a large trifle bowl, layer the gingerbread cubes, the soaked fruit, some whipped cream, and a few fresh raspberries.
  • Repeat the layers until the container is full, finishing with whipped cream on top.
  • Decorate the top layer generously with fresh raspberries and a light dusting of ground cinnamon or nutmeg.
  • Chill for at least 1 hour before serving to let flavors meld.

10. Spiced Greek-Style Thanksgiving Baklava Diamonds

A festive twist on traditional baklava, layered with walnuts, aromatic autumn spices, and a hint of pumpkin puree for Thanksgiving flavor, drenched in honey-cinnamon syrup.

  • 120 g pumpkin puree
  • 100 g brown sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon

  • ½ tsp ground allspice

For the phyllo layers and butter:

  • Walnut halves for decoration (about 16 halves)

  • 1 cinnamon stick

Instructions:

  • Brush the bottom of a baking tray with melted butter. Lay down four sheets of phyllo dough, brushing each sheet generously with melted butter.
Spread half of the walnut-pumpkin filling evenly over the layered phyllo.
  • Add two more phyllo sheets on top, brushing each with butter, then spread the remaining filling.
  • Finish by layering the last four phyllo sheets on top, again brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  • Carefully cut the assembled baklava into diamond shapes using a sharp knife.
  • Place one walnut half on top of each diamond piece for decoration.
  • Bake the baklava in the preheated oven for 60 to 80 minutes, turning the tray every 20 minutes to get an even golden color and crisp texture.
  • Prepare the syrup: Combine the water, sugar, honey, lemon juice, orange zest, whole cloves, and cinnamon stick in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer gently for about 10-15 minutes until slightly thickened and fragrant.
  • Remove the syrup from the heat and discard the cloves and cinnamon stick. Let it cool completely.
  • Once the baklava is out of the oven, immediately pour the cold syrup evenly over the hot baklava.
