Halloween has a way of bringing out the baker in me. Maybe it’s the cooler air, maybe it’s the fun of decorating spooky treats—but nothing beats a tray of homemade chocolate biscuits waiting to be iced into ghosts, pumpkins, mummies, or spiderwebs.

The dough comes together in one bowl, rolls out beautifully, and bakes into crisp, chocolatey rounds. They’re perfect plain with a cup of Greek coffee, or dressed up with royal icing for holidays.

What do I love most? They’re versatile. One day they’re spooky Halloween cookies, the next they’re dainty Christmas treats with stars and snowflakes. Keep the recipe handy—you’ll find a reason to bake them all year long.
How I Make Them
I start with soft butter and sugar, creaming them until all is pale and fluffy. That’s the base of almost every good biscuit. Then comes the egg, then the splash of milk. Milk binds everything without making the dough heavy.

Next, I sift in the flour and cocoa, which gives the dough its chocolate backbone. It might look crumbly at first, but a little mixing and it comes together into a soft, rollable dough.

I chill it for a bit (especially if the kitchen is warm), then roll it out on a floured surface. Half a centimeter thick is perfect—not too thin, not too chunky. With a round cutter, I stamp out neat little circles and line them on a tray.

The oven does its job in just 10–12 minutes, and soon I have a tray of fragrant, cocoa biscuits. Some I keep plain, others I decorate with royal icing into pumpkins and bats for Halloween.

They’re crisp, chocolatey, and exactly the kind of treat that makes celebrations extra fun.
